IFMSA – AUGUST MEETING GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The IFMSA 68th August Meeting was hosted by FMS Taiwan in Taipei. August Meeting is one of the events held by IFMSA which aims to gather IFMSA members from all across the globe and empower each other, with various trainings, theme events, plenary, and SCO sessions to continue the regeneration of IFMSA. All the opportunities provided in this event require delegates present to be able to share innovative, creative, and solutive ideas so that problems that occur, not only in the organization, but also in the environment / medical world, can be found the solutions. Then, we can solving the problems in order a better world.

As the topic raised at the 2019 IFMSA August Meeting theme events this time, namely ‘Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Health Care’, we as delegates and medical students are required to continue to learn and enrich knowledge as vast as possible extent because the rapid of advancement in technology can make it possible to shift the capabilities that have been possessed by medical personnel now and later as stated by Dr. James Christopher Thomas in delivering material on ‘How is Technology Shaping Diversity in Medical Systems’.

DRAGONBALL (Diabetes Risk Reduction Program by Application of Healthy Lifestyle) – 25th May 2019

DRAGONBALL (Diabetes Risk Reduction Program by Application of Healthy Lifestyle) is one of the activities carried out by SCOPH CIMSA UNEJ. This activity is a new program held in May 2019 which is conducted every month by SCOPH CIMSA UNEJ. DRAGONBALL aims to reduce the risk of diabetes and reduce the prevalence of diabetes in Sukoreno Village, Kaliwates District, Jember Regency, East Java. The reason for implementing this program in Sukoreno Village is because this village has the highest prevalence of diabetes in Jember Regency. The activities carried out were conducting physical health checks, blood pressure examination and blood sugar test without being charged. After an examination of blood pressure and blood sugar, an assessment and education is given to individuals with informed consent. Every individual who has agreed to informed consent will be educated about what diabetes is, how to manage diabetes and examples of applying a healthy lifestyle.

On Saturday, May 25, 2019, DRAGONBALL conducted a bonding activity which was the initial activity as an introduction to this program to local residents in collaboration with the village midwife Sukoreno in conducting health checks at Sukoreno Village Hall. Local residents who participated in this activity seemed enthusiastic in receiving health checks and assessments from CIMSA members. Before it begins, we prepare the examination table and arrange assignments with the village midwife. Local residents who came were asked to submit photocopies of family cards for data collection, then each person measured their weight and height by the CIMSA member. After that, the village midwife checks their blood pressure. After a blood pressure check, they moved to the second table and the CIMSA member checked their blood sugar.Continue reading

  MAMA (Maternal Acquaintance for Mom’s Awareness) – 25th May 2019

Maternal Mortality Ratio or Angka Kematian Ibu (AKI) is the number of maternal deaths due to complications of pregnancy, childbirth, and the puerperium period recorded within one year per 1000 live births at the same time. Jember, one of city in East Java, has to be first position of the highest maternal mortality ratio in East Java. According to the health profile of Kabupaten Jember, in 2014 in Arjasa Subdistrict, the drop out of antenatal care or ANC rate was very high (K1 = 97%; K4 = 47%). This condition certainly has a big influence on AKI in Jember. Therefore, MAMA (Maternal Acquaintance for Mom’s Awareness) decided to focus on the ANC, especially to increase the number of ANC visits in Kemuninglor Village, Arjasa Sub district, as a strategy to reduce maternal morality ratio in Jember Regency.

On Saturday, 25th May, 2019, Community Development of SCORA CIMSA UNEJ, MAMA, does intervention to the pregnant women and WUS in Kemuning Lor Village, Arjasa Sub district, Jember Regency. MAMA’s intervention this time gave explanation about two materials. The first material was about contraception and the second was Hypnobirthing and Hypnoparenting.Continue reading

POKEMON (Program for Kids through Education and Management on Nutrition) – 25th May

POKEMON (Program for Kids through Education and Management on Nutrition) is one of CIMSA UNEJ’s COMDEV activity. POKEMON has been implemented since 2016 and become a sustainable activity. POKEMON aims to improve the nutritional status of students in SDN Karangrejo V, Sumbersari, Jember, East Java. It’s because the students of SDN Karangrejo V tend to have nutritional status between good and less(80%).

On Saturday, 25th May 2019, POKEMON held an intervention by providing guidance for the students in SDN Karangrejo V from 1st grade to 5th grade that have done by CIMSA UNEJ and also assisted by Dokter kecil. Students from each class seemed very enthusiastic and eager to take part in our training. At the beginning of the activity, we made an introduction. Then, the provision of balanced nutrition was delivered by the Little Doctor who had previously been at the previous briefing. Next, we sang a song. The song title is Healthy Breakfast. We also invite the students to come bravely in front of the class to sing this song. This simple action means to increase the confidence of each student.Continue reading

On Saturday, April 13th 2019, a MAMA bonding was held. This activity was held in Kemuninglor Village, Arjasa District, Jember Regency. In the same day, POSYANDU was held also in this village. So that, this bonding event was held with POSYANDU activities in the village. MAMA was began with opening, after that it was continued by sharing about ANC explained by Indra Caesar as PETRA. In the middle of sharing, pregnant women or ibu-ibu was very enthusiastic to pay attention and answer a number of questions asked by the speaker. After sharing, in order not to get bored we invited pregnant women and WUS to sing the song “Ayo ANC” and give a game. The game was myths or facts about pregnancy. When the games ware done, mothers looked very eager to answer some of the statements given by OC regarding pregnancy. Mothers who succeeded in answering and explaining OC’s statements whether myths or facts then given door prizes such as household appliances.
